An olive harvest is one of the most fascinating experiences you can enjoy in Greece. It is a wonderful way to learn a lot not only about the local wine & food traditions but also about the local culture. Those who tried it report that the atmosphere of a working oil mill and the enthusiasm of olive farmers during the harvesting season is something definitely unique in Mystras. You can experience the olive harvest, be part of the olive oil production process and learn about the strive to make a high quality extra virgin olive oil.

The olive harvest experience is organized and planned in two different sections. After meeting your  food guide in a farm producing olive oil, and after a short briefing with him with info of the experience, this first part of the activity will start moving in a gorgeous olive grove. Surrounded by centennial olive trees and working side by side with the harvesters, you will be able to pick the olives from the trees, learning also important information about the cultivation of the olive trees.

For the second part of the olive harvest activity, we will move to an olive-press . You will discover how extra virgin olive oil is made using the old millstone extraction method as well as with the modern continuous loop machinery, for then having the chance to taste it with delicious ‘koukouvagia bread’ during a picnic enjoying a typical Greek lunch paired with Peloponnesian wines.
